April
Sexual Assault Awareness Month Activities
  • The VPC hosts a Take Back the Night march that includes a silent vigil.  Please join us for this rewarding, moving event.  Check back for an exact time and location as the month approaches.

  • Liberal use is made of our local ISP, Boreal Access, and Cook County's own radio station, WTIP, to present and discuss this nationwide Awareness Month as well as the local resources we have to offer.

October

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities

  • The VPC illustrates just one of the effects of domestic violence through visual art entitled 'Empty Place at the Table'.  These displays, a dining table set for one guest . . . but with a chair that will remain eternally empty, are available for the public to view and discuss in at least two locations in Grand Marais during the month.

  • Then, please join us for Minnesota's own 'Vigil for Remembrance and Peace':  an outdoor, candlelit celebration that includes the reading of the year's Femicide Report (a list - complete with names, ages, and hometowns - of the women, children, and men who have died in Minnesota during the last year due to Domestic Violence).  Attendants are encouraged to light a candle for someone who they believe may be struggling with domestic voilence . . . or in memory of a person lost.  Vigils in the past have included music apropos to the ceremony.  Check back for an exact time and location as the month approaches.

Come help us CELEBRATE our 25th Anniversary in style!
